Since leaving the White House Barack Obama has been having a great time.
In his first day as an average Joe, he decided to go and play a bit of golf – now, it wouldn’t be my ideal way to relax after eight years running the US, but rich people are different, aren’t they?
He’s since followed that up with a trip to Richard Branson’s private island and a spot of kite-surfing. That’s more like it.
You can see him and Branson learning how to kiteboard and foilboard here:
On his blog, billionaire Branson wrote: “One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became president, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii.
“When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: ‘This will be the last time you surf for eight years’. For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.”
And he does certainly seem to love them. Look how much fun he is having. Have you ever been this happy? I definitely have not been this happy.
Branson also revealed that he and Barack had a ‘battle to see who could stay up the longest’.
He wrote: “We were neck and neck until the last run on the last day, when I got up on the foilboard and screamed along for over 50 metres, three feet above the water. I was feeling very pleased with myself, only to look over and see Barack go 100 metres on his kiteboard! I had to doff my cap to him and celebrate his victory.”
But it’s not over as far as Branson is concerned, he said he’s already practicing for next time.
